Weightloss Wednesday

Good morning one and all, and welcome to another Weightloss Wednesday

WLW_edited-1

I have decided today that I want to redefine my goals

The past few weeks I have concentrated on how I feel rather than what I weigh, and I have decided that as much as I would like to lose that extra stone, (and be a “normal” BMI), I am quite happy with my weight at the moment

I would be pleased to just maintain my weight for a while, rather than go all out to lose a lot more, then risk getting bored and putting it all back on!

I am still (mostly!) following the Weight Watchers plan – you can read Victoria’s great post about being a Weight Watcher here! – but I have decided I am not going to beat myself up about the odd biscuit, or piece of cake, as I honestly believe that

a) a little bit of what you like does you no harm

and

b) you are more likely to fall off the “dieting” wagon if you never get to eat anything you like

– the whole point of W/W is to manage what you are eating in a way that means you do stick to your points, but you can actually eat what you want to a degree – as long as you stay within your points allowance!

choc-hob-nob

Not that I am planning to eat my entire daily allowance in cake and biscuits lol, but I have got to the stage now, where I can eat my normal breakfast, lunch & dinner and the odd biscuit and maybe not lose weight, but can stay the same.

christmas-food

I have decided that in the new year once we have moved house, and Christmas is out the way, I will make a decided effort to do more exercise – because I would rather do that than give up my treats! – with going to Egypt at Easter being the target for being a bit fitter & healthier

ILoveSwimming

There is a new swimming pool opening up nearby after Christmas, and once I pick up my new car (and pass my driving test!) I am very much looking forward to doing some swimming on a regular basis – I don’t know about you, but swimming doesn’t seem as strenuous as going to the gym or jogging?

I think most people start the New Year with goals that they want to achieve…

I wonder how many of us actually stick to them?!

You're completely right dude!!!

The good thing about weight watchers is you don't have to deny yourself and as long as you have the points calculators and things you can work out the points of anything. I've abandoned eating the 1.5 point WW biccies and instead have 3 cadburys chocolate fingers - far more enjoyable and seem more treat like!

Fingers crossed in the new year I'll be more active with walking to the station and having housework to do!! I'm also hoping I'll be able to manage and organise my food better.

Hi Rose,
I feel the same way. I am fighting to loose the last pregnancy pounds and with our last holiday it became even harder (how could I say no to my family's delicious food?). I used to be a size 10 and now I am a size 12, which means most of my clothes don't fit me and I have to buy new clothes. What I decided to do is to accept my new size and get rid of all that doesn't fit me. It depresses me less to buy new clothes that fit (which is a great excuse to go shopping) than to try hard and hard to fit my old wardrobe and get really frustrated that my old jeans don't fit as good as they used to. I am not saying that I will go mad and eat everything in the house, but I will try to maintain and even perhaps loose the extra weight in a more sensible way.
Good luck with your goals.

Haha, no. I almost never stick to my New Year's goals...well, does spending more money count as a goal? :)

But I did start a "goal" this week...to go running twice a week. I did it this morning in the rain! I going to try to stick with it!

Hi Rose

Anyway I'll be seeing you tomorrow OMG I can't believe it.
Take care Kate.

I'm not sure I even dare reply to this! I was being really good but now have well and truly fallen off the wagon and probably put back on everything I lost :(

Hope it works for you though, nothing wrong with maintaining!

I so agree with you! If you don't have a treat now and then what is the point! Good luck with the driving test!

Rose,

Having covered a lecture on the Psychology of Eating (you'd be surprised what lectures I get to as a note-taker!) you're doing the right thing. Firstly, BMI is not a great measure of how much fat you have because it measures your overall weight. You could have no fat and be all muscle and your BMI could be high.

Secondly, dieters who restrict their intake a lot can REALLY fall off the wagon when they do. If you can balance what you eat with the exercise you do that would be best. Then you get an accurate energy balance. As the lecturer put it...

Energy intake = Energy expenditure = a good energy balance. If your energy expenditure is a little higher then maybe you'll burn up some of the fat you want to lose.

Also she pointed out that women are more likely to comfort eat under stress. They eat more high fat snacks and feel guiltier about doing it. Males comfort eat with a hearty meal and don't feel guilty about it.

So a little naughtiness can go a long way to a lot of goodness!
